It is a really good idea to hire a guide in Kakamega Forest. Not only are the signs getting worn and taken down, but it is the only way these people make their living. You will also be getting a really good deal at 200 Ksh per person. In fact, I saw one couple being confronted for not hiring a guide so it may be a regulation for entering the forest now.
